125. Governors are to furnish every Officer proceeding on leave of absence with
a duplicate of the Certificate above mentioned; and an absent Officer must produce such Certificate to the Crown Agents for the Colonies in order to receive his salary.
A third copy of the Certificate should be transmitted by the Colonial Government direct
to the Crown Agents for the Colonies when the Officer's salary is to be paid through them, with instructions to issue the salary accordingly, as it becomes due.
130. On arriving in this country, the Officer on leave must report his arrival by
letter to the Colonial Office, inentioning the place of his residence, and he must
similarly notify any subsequent change of residence. Treasurers and Auditors of
Colonies whose accounts are subject to Imperial audit, should also send their address to
the Comptroller and Auditor-General.

Any Officer who may desire to forego a portion of his leave must obtain the previous
permission of the Governor, or, if in Europe, must apply to the Secretary of State for
permission to do so in sufficient time to allow of at least one clear month's notice being
given to the Governor, should the Secretary of State approve; and on his arrival in the
Colony, it must be understood that be cannot claim as a right to resume his own appoint-
ment before the expiration of his original leave, but must place himself at the orders of
the Governor, who will make such arrangements for his re-employment and for his
eventual resumption of the duties of his office as may be found possible.

In cases of application for extension of leave, except on the ground of ill-health or very exceptional circumstances, the application will not be complied with without a reference to the Governor. Every Officer should, therefore, decide three or four months
in advance whether or not he intends to apply for an extension of leave.
In cases where it is necessary to refer to the Governor by telegraph, the applicant
must refund the cost of the telegram sent and of that in reply.
N.B.-Leave of Absence beyond 1-6th of Resident Service
will not be granted by the Secretary of State except on Medical Certificate from the Medical Officer employed by the Colonial Office, or on urgent private affairs, the nature of which must be stated and must be satisfactory to the Secretary of State.
